UNUSUAL ALLIANCES ANTICIPATE IMPEACHMENT

In an unexpected twist to the continuing impeachment saga, former Secretaries of State, National Security Advisors and other former senior members of past administrations are involved in quiet, preliminary discussion in order to compose a joint domestic policy statement.

Former senior officials, notably from both major political parties, are concerned enough about what they see as a "clear peril to the future of American democracy" that coming forward with a strong public statement has become imperative. According to Delphine O'Grady-Mills from the non-partisan Taft Institute in Washington, what started as an informal e-mail chain of private conversation among peers has, in short order, become nothing less than a "movement." O'Grady-Mills, an expert in constitutional law and an historian specializing in early 20th century American congressional jurisprudential process observed that "the degree of involvement from former high ranking Republican officials is nothing short of stunning."

The statement is due some time before Christmas and may even be released as early as this week.
