SENATE REPUBLICANS FLOAT IMPEACHMENT PLAN
As the impeachment becomes all but inevitable, eleven Republicans senators are in serious discussion concerning the probable replacement of Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Disaffection if not downright contempt for the president has prompted a significant number of Republicans to contemplate the party's future after Trump. Among the names most commonly floated as Trump's replacement are Nikki Haley, Mitt Romney, John Kasich and Meghan McCain.
"The likelihood of conviction in the Senate is beginning to feel more and more like an inevitability," said GOP political consultant Boris Lemon, "the rats are beginning to exodus Trump's sinking ship." Notable among the early defectors are several senators who have been, up until now, ardent defenders of the president. "The recent tweets attacking Greta Thunberg seem to be the last and hardest demand of loyalty and many senators are simply too disgusted to soldier on."
